Arup’s collaboration with Manchester Airports Group (MAG) focuses on updating and enhancing airfield assets through cutting-edge, sustainable approaches. The scope of work spans runway resurfacing, airfield enhancements, aircraft stand construction, and advanced lighting solutions.

Arup has been selected as the principal design partner under the Manchester Airports Group (MAG) Airfield Infrastructure Framework, leveraging the firm’s global expertise to support critical development projects across Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands airports.

This multi-year framework underscores MAG’s dedication to optimizing airfield assets and boosting operational performance. By drawing on Arup’s extensive airport planning and design background, the partnership will incorporate innovative, eco-conscious strategies that help MAG meet its long-term capital goals and further enhance the passenger experience.

As the Design Partner for Lot 1 of the framework, Arup will provide an array of services, including airfield improvements, runway resurfacing, aircraft stand upgrades, and the installation of modern airfield ground lighting systems.

“Manchester Airports Group continues demonstrating strong leadership in advancing sustainable airfield infrastructure across its airports. The Airfield Infrastructure Framework presents a valuable opportunity for us to support MAG’s investment plans and assist them on their journey to achieving their net-zero targets,” said Thomai Terry, Airfield Infrastructure Business Lead at Arup.

“We are proud to be appointed as a key partner and look forward to delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that will enhance airfield operations and create a lasting legacy for Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands Airports,” added Alan Newbold.
