AI-powered digital pathology solutions deliver seamless, interoperable workflows that support more confident cancer diagnoses.

Royal Philips has announced an expanded partnership with Ibex Medical Analytics to accelerate the adoption of AI-enabled digital pathology. This collaboration and the introduction of Philips IntelliSite Pathology Solution (PIPS) 6.0 aim to address the increasing pressure on pathologists due to a global shortage and rising cancer cases. Building on their initial 2021 partnership, Philips and Ibex are now enhancing the interoperability of their platforms to optimize diagnostic workflows and improve patient care.

Boosting Diagnostic Accuracy and Efficiency
The integration of Ibex’s AI capabilities with Philips’ digital pathology platform has significantly improved reporting efficiency, with productivity gains reaching up to 37% [1]. This partnership allows pathology labs to leverage the entire portfolio of Philips’ digital pathology scanners, Image Management System, and Ibex’s AI-powered diagnostic tools for prostate, breast, and gastric cancers.

The combined solution empowers clinicians with objective, reproducible results by streamlining access to AI-driven tools in pathology workflows, boosting diagnostic confidence, and meeting the rising demand for pathology-based diagnostics. The collaboration benefits cancer diagnoses by providing pathologists with more accurate, quicker results.

“Pathology provides key information for a precise diagnosis. The Philips and Ibex solutions are especially beneficial to diagnosing cancer cases because they aid our pathologists in making an accurate and quick diagnosis,” says Sam Terese, President & CEO of Alverno Laboratories. “These integrated pathology solutions help us provide the highest possible quality result that any lab can deliver, getting answers back to our clinicians quickly and saving patients sleepless nights, even on complex cases.”

The expanded integration between PIPS and Ibex also supports optimized workflows through AI-powered cancer detection, case prioritization, and reporting. This improved interoperability simplifies the use of AI tools, contributing to more confident diagnoses and enhanced patient care.

Introducing Philips IntelliSite Pathology 6.0
Philips has unveiled PIPS 6.0, the latest iteration of its digital pathology solution, featuring new AI capabilities and advanced analysis tools [2]. These enhancements provide pathology teams with an AI-powered clinical workflow solution, from case management to diagnosis and reporting.

“The enhanced interoperability between Philips and Ibex platforms, which are now more seamlessly integrated into our diagnostic workflows, will accelerate the adoption of augmented pathology tools, which we strongly believe,” said Stéphane Rossat, Innovation & Scientific Director and Project Management at Medipath. “PIPS 6.0 promises to facilitate adoption by our physicians, thanks to its streamlined navigation and optimized workflows. We are eager to contribute to the evolution toward true digital 'cockpits,' which will become the reference interface for our pathologists.”

PIPS 6.0 introduces features such as full scan mode for the pathology SG scanner, contextual AI launch [2], and a counter marker tool. It also offers improved scalability and cloud archiving options developed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services. These advancements allow pathology labs to manage and analyze growing volumes of digital pathology data securely. PIPS 6.0 will be showcased at the US & Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) Annual Conference in Boston, March 24-27, 2025.
