Stantec Chosen to Design New BC Cancer Centre at Nanaimo Hospital

The upcoming facility is a cornerstone of British Columbia's comprehensive 10-year Cancer Action Plan.
Stantec has been selected to lead the design of the new C$289 million BC Cancer Centre at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). This state-of-the-art facility will bring much-needed radiation therapy services to patients in central and northern Vancouver Island, making treatment more accessible for local communities.
The cancer center's design will be patient-focused, incorporating natural light and views to promote healing and enhance the care experience.
The four-story facility will provide essential services such as radiation therapy, CT simulators, and linear accelerator vaults. It will also house a PET/CT diagnostic scanner, outpatient oncology care, an oncology pharmacy, systemic therapy, and a sacred space for patients and families. The project’s groundbreaking is slated for fall 2025, with completion expected in 2028.
This initiative is part of British Columbia’s ambitious 10-year Cancer Action Plan, which aims to advance cancer prevention, detection, and treatment and ensure better care for cancer patients now and in the future.
